Artist Statement
Mindmaze is an interactive application designed for individuals diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and for those seeking to maintain their cognitive health. Inspired by her personal experience watching Maria’s grandparent battle Alzheimer’s disease, this project is a tribute to them and an effort to support others facing similar challenges. Mindmaze is the result of in-depth research into Alzheimer’s and dementia-related conditions. It targets key pain points for patients, aiming to address them with empathy and evidence-based solutions.
This prototype includes features like cognitive mini-games and memory-tracking exercises, all carefully chosen to maintain long-term cognitive maintenance. Each element in Mindmaze is rooted in research, offering a purposeful and supportive experience for users. This work not only aids patients but also resonates with families, caregivers, and the broader community, shedding light on the need for accessible, compassionate tools in cognitive health.
Biography
Maria Farhadi is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher exploring the intersections of interactive media, UX/UI design, and emerging technologies. She is an MFA candidate in Digital Media and Design at the University of Connecticut, where her work focuses on leveraging digital tools to enhance user experiences in healthcare and beyond. Beginning her creative journey in animation before transitioning to graphic design, Maria discovered her passion for blending disciplines, merging design, research, and technology to address contemporary human challenges. Her work has been recognized in multiple competitions, highlighting both her creative vision and entrepreneurial approach. Through innovative research and interactive storytelling, she aims to push the boundaries of UX design and contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape of digital media.
