Area of Research / Artistic Focus: Documentary-style research

Sharon Burke is a Media Producer 2 for UConn, contracted by the State of Connecticut, and works for the Connecticut Department of Social Services. There, she produces all multimedia for DSS including video, audio, photos, and graphic design.

Prior to joining UConn, Burke served as the Assistant Director of Video Production at Quinnipiac University that oversees Quinnipiac University’s Athletics’ video operations. This includes live ESPN3 broadcasts of hockey and basketball games as well as creating multimedia content for Quinnipiac’s 21 Division I sports teams.

Prior to joining Quinnipiac in 2015, Burke held positions with NBC Connecticut and Fox 61 and is an Emmy Award-winning news photojournalist with over 20 years of experience in broadcast media. She has covered many high profile and national stories such as the Cheshire Home Invasions, interviewed Vice President Dick Cheney, and reported in tropical storm Irene, winter blizzards, and on the aftermath of tornadoes that touched down in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Burke was one of the first Connecticut photojournalists on the scene of the Boston Marathon Bombings; providing live reports from Boylston Street in Boston as the dramatic events unfolded.

Burke passionately brings this media experience into the college classrooms as she teaches studio production and multimedia techniques courses at Quinnipiac University. In addition, she is an Associate Faculty member in the Communication and Media Studies Department at Post University teaching communication courses. She is a media practitioner who is also a media critic, teaching college students to be critical of the media and analyze the ever-changing media landscape. Burke holds a Master’s Degree in Communication from the University of Hartford and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Franklin Pierce University.
