Degrees
Undergraduate Degrees
Undergraduate degrees in Digital Media & Design take one of two forms: a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Both of these degree programs start with a strong foundation that covers a broad spectrum of digital media & design skills and applications. While the core is nearly identical, the B.F.A., as the professional arts degree, has additional studio courses, requiring that 65% of the total course credits focus on the creation and study of art and design. The B.A. is considered a liberal arts degree and allows the flexibility for a student to earn a degree in Digital Media & Design while supplementing their degree with courses in other disciplines such as the Schools of Engineering, Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, making the most of UConn’s status as a “R1” (research one) classified university. The B.A. degree is the better option for students looking to double major or minor in another subject or who plan to study abroad for a full academic year. While students are asked to declare a degree when they apply, there is flexibility for them to change their degree option once they are at UConn. A concentration is required to be declared prior to the student’s sophomore year.

The Digital Media & Design department currently only offers a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.). The Master of Arts (M.A.) program is not accepting applications. The M.F.A. is a three-year program awarding the terminal degree in the field and culminates in a fine art exhibition in the Benton Museum of Art. The M.A. (currently closed) was a one-year, initial masters program designed for students with existing skills who want to build or pivot their expertise.
