More than 60% of animation students in college are women, yet they make up less than 20% of animation creatives in the workplace. While the industry is beginning to address this disparity and become more inclusive, there are still remnants of the long-existing “boys club.” In this discussion, we'll talk about animation and the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated pipeline.

Searit Huluf

About the Artists:

Searit Huluf was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She studied at UCLA’s Theater, Film and Television school, concentrating in screenwriting and animation. After graduating, Searit moved to the Bay Area and began working in Production Management at Pixar Animation Studios. She was the Art and FX Coordinator on Incredibles 2, Global Coordinator for Sparkshorts, and is currently the Story Coordinator for Turning Red. In 2018, she directed a late night show called Talk of the Town and fundraised over $3000 for the Oakland A’s Foundation. She also directed short narrative and documentary films, such as GAMERS, Exploring Blackness, and 19th Amendment Doc. During her spare time Searit watches endless hours of anime, is a major foodie and coffee fan, and enjoys solo traveling. Searit currently lives in Oakland, CA.

Alexandra Rosenberg

Alexandra Rosenberg is a Production Manager at Netflix Animation. She's previously worked for Illumination Entertainment, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Disney Television Animation.  Select Credits include: Raya and the Last Dragon, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck it Ralph 2, Moana, Zootopia, and Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. Alex has a B.A. in Film History and Child Development from Sarah Lawrence College and an M.F.A. in Producing from UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television. She has a background in production and development for animation and began her career working in live-action television production. In addition to working in animation, she teaches a course in animation production for UCLA’s Summer Institute. Alex lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
