Over the past 10 years, the percentage of US adults who identify as LGBTQ doubled. When designing products, it is critical to keep that growing minority in mind. Andrew Wolf, a gay Senior UX Designer, will discuss how the evolution of design to embrace the LGBTQ community is analogous with his own identity iterations and will provide some best UX practices and case studies that embrace LGBTQ users.

About the Speaker:

Husky and DMD alumni Andrew Wolf (‘18) is a Senior Product Designer at Rokt, an AI hyper-growth Series E startup that improves the centralization and relevancy of online advertisements. As part of the company’s Experimentation Team, he builds enterprise desktop tools that enable Rokt employees and clients to test the impact that changes in ad design and placement will have on outcomes.

Wolf’s career journey began in the Digital Media & Design Department. After taking the Intro to Web Design course, he discovered his passion for UX and started creating websites for clients off campus. He became more curious about user needs after being a usability test participant for the first iteration of a digital archive viewer called Omeka Everywhere. He teamed up with project researcher Professor Ceglio to design, implement, and analyze the next round of UX/UI testing. He undertook this work supported by an Office of Undergraduate SHARE Award and also received the Victor Bodge Scholarship.

Wolf’s professional career began at NBCUniversal in NYC as a junior UX researcher and designer in Global Media Operations, where he worked on internal tools such as media supply chain systems and setting TV cable provider entitlements. His most notable project was Live Shot Manager, a new kind of tool that digitized and optimized live news creation and air workflow. Wolf next worked at Meta in its Enterprise Infrastructure and Security organization. There, he established the team’s brand identity and worked on engineer-focused products for vulnerability management, data security, etc. In his free time, Wolf also mentored students taking an online UX bootcamp called DesignLab.
