Saemi Yoon is a first-year M.F.A. candidate at the University of Connecticut in the Digital Media and Design program, focusing on UI/UX, Motion, and Interactive Media Design.
She earned her B.F.A. in Textile Design at Konkuk University in South Korea and spent several years working across diverse fields including fashion, film, and graphic design. While those experiences deepened her creative perspective, she gradually became more drawn to the intersection of design and technology, especially the way that UI/UX design can make a real impact on people’s lives. This motivated her to shift her career focus and pursue graduate studies in Digital Media and Design at UConn.
Her current research focuses on exploring how design can generate social impact, using digital media as a tool to address real-world issues and support diverse communities. She is also passionate about integrating different media such as motion design, interactive web design, and Augmented Reality (AR) to create immersive and engaging user experiences that go beyond mere aesthetics to foster meaningful connections between people and technology.
Teaching has also been an important part of her journey. Influenced by her parents—both educators—she has enjoyed working as an art instructor and docent, where she shared her knowledge and experience with others. She currently works as a Teaching Assistant in the DMD department, where she primarily supports courses in design foundations and motion design. She hopes to continue growing as both a designer and an educator throughout her graduate studies.
