Mohammad Edalati is a multidisciplinary designer, educator, and researcher working across visual communication, interaction design, UI/UX, and emerging media. He is currently an MFA candidate in Digital Media & Design at the University of Connecticut, where his research examines how visual and interactive media shape cultural perception, identity, and bias. His practice brings together design research, critical media theory, and interactive technologies to investigate representation, audience interpretation, and digital experience.
His current project, Media Representation and Cultural Bias Formation, explores stereotyping, othering, framing, and cultivation through an interactive installation using real-time body tracking, TouchDesigner, and Kinect-based interaction. Informed by the work of Stuart Hall, Edward Said, Erving Goffman, and George Gerbner, the project translates theoretical questions of media representation into participatory and embodied experiences. His broader interests include visual culture, human–computer interaction, accessible and inclusive design, and the role of emerging technologies in shaping perception and meaning.
Alongside his research, Mohammad serves as an Instructor of Record in UConn’s Digital Media & Design program, teaching Design Lab I and Design Lab II. His teaching connects foundational design principles with professional practice and encourages students to develop both technical confidence and critical awareness.
He holds a BA in Visual Communication Design from Shiraz University and brings professional experience in graphic design, UI/UX, branding, editorial design, motion graphics, video production, and digital communication. His academic and professional work is connected by a consistent interest in how design mediates information, experience, and cultural understanding.
