Artist Statement

Sleeping Sky is an exploration of the anti-government rallies in Iran and the youth who are striving to affect change in their society. The narrative immerses viewers in the tense atmosphere of the Iranian demonstrations of the Women, Life, Freedom Movement. The work combines visually striking elements with a captivating plot to reflect on issues of trust and human relationships within a setting of socio-political unrest. 

This project is more than just a record of events; it’s a thoughtful analysis of social structures. Sleeping Sky challenges viewers’ beliefs about how to resolve conflicts by highlighting the complex interplay of social demands that drive social behavior. Within the wider framework of social tales, Sleeping Sky promotes empathy, reflection, and a deeper understanding of the relationship between trust, betrayal, and the essential elements of human nature. 

Biography

Zahra Sadeghi, an MFA in Digital Media Design candidate focused in film and video production, is a filmmaker dedicated to highlighting human rights concerns. Her main research interests are narrative filmmaking and short movies exploring human (particularly women’s) rights, as well as loneliness in modern life. She regards filmmaking as a mode of activism that potentially could empower some to stand up to everyday injustices experienced by girls, women, and their families in Iran. Her commitment to the intersection of art and human rights defines her role as a filmmaker and positions her as a passionate advocate for the voiceless in our society.
