Artist Statement
Digital Moments, Liquid Experiences expresses the paradox of navigating two worlds: the “real” and the diverse “digital environments” created through the process of image-making and image-sharing as both a producer and consumer. Inspired by Zygmunt Bauman’s Liquid Modernity work, there’s a symbolic portrayal of a dichotomy of two selves: one struggling to exist free from the mediation of mobile technologies, and the other embracing the fluidity of their online presence.
In today’s landscape, where smartphones serve as pervasive networking apparatuses for visual communication, Digital Moments, Liquid Experiences aims to spark conversations around the impact of our digital presence, reflecting on how our immersive practices are affecting one’s sense of self, motivation, and performance in society.
Biography
Working as both a multimedia artist and media researcher, Brazilian artist Luiza Printes dos Santos uses experimental filmmaking, performance, and photography techniques to illustrate how social media and emerging mobile technologies affect individuals and society. Through a personal perspective, she explores her reflections as a digital media user and foreigner, highlighting the challenges of maintaining relationships through connectivity, while feeling disconnected from her present environment.
Luiza’s work has been displayed at Arts Worcester Gallery, the Loft Artists Association, and the Local Arts Stage at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford. She has presented her research at TedX, The Public Relations Society of America, holds a Master of Arts in Communication from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Luiza is committed to advocating for Digital Media and Information Literacy as an educator and artist.
