Meet one of the Digital Media and Design Department’s newest faculty members, John Murphy!
About himself, John writes:
“Prior to joining UConn, I spent the past 30+ years in the digital technology industry as a developer, project manager, and entrepreneur. Most recently, I lead the Social Media Listening Center for Cigna, and was Social Media Director for Aetna where I was fortunate to work with some of the brightest and most innovative minds in the social media and analytics space.
As an enthusiast of social media analytics, using the latest analytics platforms and technologies, I help small businesses, nonprofits, political candidates and campaigns, advocacy organizations, and individuals with everything from creating a digital or social media department to discovering new ways to leverage data for increased productivity.
I translate social and digital media data and analytics into a story and explain how that story can be used to inform overall strategy as well as content creation, engagement, and department structure.
My professional passion is educating, mentoring, creating, leading, and partnering with students and digital media teams to harness the positive potential of social media. I also practice and teach yoga, and surf whenever I can get to the ocean.”
