Regan Kilkenny

Digital Film/Video Production Junior

Although the Digital Media & Design department has just officially launched the brand new Digital Film/Video Production concentration, Regan, who originally came into the department as a 2d animation concentration, has fully immersed herself in all of the film opportunities at UConn. Not only has Regan taken advantage of the film courses DMD has to offer but she has taken on many leadership roles outside of DMD including  UCFilm (previously UConn Film Club), client-based projects, her IDEA grant, and job at the Imagination Station.

Some of the classes that have influenced her the most are “Technical Production” and “Cinematography.” These classes helped her refine her production skills and develop technical skills to make her more confident behind the camera and better at composing shots to tell a story. She also had the opportunity to work on a project with the Bushnell, a performing arts hall in Hartford, that allowed her to work with professionals in the field and learn how to operate advanced filming technology.

Outside of the classroom, she uses the skills she learned in the DMD program to create a recruitment video, t-shirt designs and Snapchat geofilters for her panhellenic sorority, Pi Beta Phi. Additionally, her skills have helped her tremendously as the Vice President of UCFilm and when doing freelance videography. Within UCFilm she has been involved in many films, like Opening Night, a short film she produced as a freshman. In the past, she has also worked on two IDEA Grant films, the first being the assistant camerawoman on Matt Bilmes’ film, EXIT, then being the Producer on Kat Folker’s film, A Thing In The Woods. Currently she is producing yet another film from her own IDEA Grant, which is titled The Color of You. This film has given her the opportunity to work with some DMD alumni as it was written and directed by Lucian Hatfield ’19 and the director of photography is Christian Partenio ‘19.

Regan works as the “Audio Visual Technical Assist” for the Digital Media and Design department’s Imagination Station. The Imagination Station allows students to rent out high-end professional film and audio equipment. Working there, she manages and tests out the equipment to help herself and other students understand the technology better.
