He also learned of his selection by the U.S. Department of State’s J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for the award of a Fulbright Scholarship to India. The award allots Marc nine months of research (October 2018-June 2019) and three to five months of additional Hindi language training. Marc is conducting research for his dissertation, “In the Circle of Great Powers: India, the United States, and Defining the Postcolonial Atomic State, 1947-1974,” an examination of the political and cultural contexts of India’s atomic energy and later nuclear weapons programs. He envisions India’s mastery of the atom as a transnational project informed by scientific prestige, regional conflict, and recognition as a modern postcolonial state.
